How HENSOLDT’s CVFDR Combines Voice, Data and Data Link Recording in One Device

HENSOLDT, a leading sensor solution provider, has unveiled its new product, the Cockpit Voice and Flight Data Recorder (CVFDR), which combines voice, flight data and data link recording in one device. The new CVFDR is designed to meet the latest standards of ED-112A and EASA ETSO, and offers high reliability, low weight and flexible application.

The CVFDR is the latest addition to HENSOLDT’s SferiRec family of recorders, which also includes the SferiRec LCR for smaller flying platforms. The CVFDR uses solid-state memory technology to store at least 25 hours of audio, data link and flight data on an integrated crash-protected memory module. The recording parameters can be modified by means of a configuration file, and the data can be easily read out without the need to power the aircraft.

The CVFDR has a modular architecture and a compact design, weighing only 2.8 kg (6.17 lbs), making it one of the lightest ED-112A combined recorders on the market. It also features a separate line replaceable unit (LRU) for the underwater locator beacon (ULB), which can accommodate different ULB types. The CVFDR has numerous interfaces, including ARINC 429, ARINC 717, RS-422, Ethernet and CAN bus, and can support various data formats, such as PCM, ADPCM, CVSD and AAC.

The CVFDR is suitable for medium and large flying platforms, such as helicopters, business jets, regional jets and airliners. It can enhance the safety and efficiency of flight operations, as well as facilitate accident investigation and prevention. The CVFDR is expected to be EASA ETSO certified by the end of 2024.

The following table summarizes some of the key features and benefits of the CVFDR:

Feature Benefit
Combined voice, flight data and data link recording One device for all recording needs
25 hour recording capacity Long-term data storage
Field-loadable software High flexibility and customization
Easy read-out without A/C power Convenient data access
